I love this. I love the Mr. Green. Was there a Mr. Green in the original? And what is that helmet, that red balloon on the motorbike?
ReplyDeleteAbout the red balloon helmet, one would like to think the fellow on the bike has everything under control.
ReplyDeleteMr. Green owes his existence to Translator's Liberty.
Just the thing for my soggy Columbia Basin morning!!! Beautiful and hilarious!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely and loose and precise at the same time. Reading up on Wang Wei, I noticed Su Shi's comment: "The quality of Wang Wei’s poems can be summed as, the poems hold a painting within them. In observing his paintings you can see that, within the painting there is poetry." I think you've captured that here. We adopted Jane in China and experienced Pearl River promenading in Guangchou and had numerous conversations about the recently receded flooding near Wuhan, our adoption city. The pictures remind me of our trip, which was a long time ago now and actually seems even longer than the actual number of years might suggest. Much water under the bridge since then. Curtis
ReplyDeleteOh, I like Translators Liberty!

Still here.
A lurker has pipped up a wee squeak of a backchannel suggestion to the effect that the red balloon helmet is in fact a set of umbrellas.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm so like no way.
Dude's got trouble enough as it is.
