Joseph Ceravolo: Someone

                                 28 August 1986
In a dream
someone showed me
   a poem, short
and dynamic! I can't
                     remember
    how it went
but it cleaned me.

Joseph Ceravolo (1934-1988): Someone [28 August 1986], from Collected Poems, 2012

Joseph Ceravolo: Night Strokes

                                      1 April 1985

So much that I see, O night
is emptiness and pain
I come home and
  what do I do?
The morning ice melts
         along the edges
of my fire

My heart melts for
the new world of my children
and their happiness.
Early America slips by me.
Ships, wagons, horses
walking running
beside the moonlight
along the river.

Then suddenly a bomb
smashes the nearby apartment house
an armored division
cuts through the block
searching out Islam renegades.

A communist band
cuts the jugular veins
of an encampment.
Fascists blow out brains
over the walls of a house.
An airplane of cocaine
blows up in the sky.

Capitalist "saints" self proclaimed
tear the balls off man
Chemicals burn the eyes
and livers of a village.
Islands of beauty burn up.

Earth doesn't weep
Nor do comets nor
yellow asteroids destined in some future
           Nor stars in some implosion
           Nor moon in some religion
Nothing weeps
  only sleeps
O night, as the greed explodes
over our daily bread.

Joseph Ceravolo (1934-1988): Night Strokes [1 April 1985], from Collected Poems, 2012

A woman sharing a taxi ride to Santiago de Cuba. Cuba can feel like a nation abandoned. 1. The Platters: Smoke Gets In Your Eyes (1958)

This song was mums favourite, when mum passed away in 1992 dad had it played at her funeral! and then it dawned on me where we were! I turned to dad and whispered "Only you could request "smoke gets in your eyes" in the fucking Crematorium! Mum would have been absolutely pissing herself laughing! God bless Mum, miss you every day.x
