The Wind Will
Take Us
In my small night, ah
the wind has a date with the leaves of the trees
in my small night there is agony of destruction
listen
do you hear the darkness blowing?
I look upon this bliss as a stranger
I am addicted to my despair.
listen do you hear the darkness blowing?
something is passing in the night
the moon is restless and red
and over this rooftop
where crumbling is a constant fear
clouds, like a procession of mourners
seem to be waiting for the moment of rain.
a moment
and then nothing
night shudders beyond this window
and the earth winds to a halt
beyond this window
something unknown is watching you and me.
O green from head to foot
place your hands like a burning memory
in my loving hands
give your lips to the caresses
of my loving lips
like the warm perception of being
the wind will take us
the wind will take us.

Where Is the House of the Friend?
..and another photo of me! Not taken by me, still pretty handsome! #fly #crow #three #sepehri: image via Black Crow @FartingCrow, 12 January 2015
In the
false-dawn twilight
a rider enquired of a passer-by:
Where is the house of my friend?
The sky paused
The passer-by held a branch of light
which brushed the dark sand
He pointed to an aspen:
before you reach that tree
turn off at the garden path
that leads into a space more green
than any god could dream
and go down that path
as far as the wings of honesty can reach
Continue beyond the end
of the first part of your life
and then turn again
take two steps
toward a flower that grows untended
alone
at the base of a fountain
whence springs the second part of your life
stop and you will be swallowed up
by fear transparent as water
In the closeness of the space that flows
something rustles
in one of the surrounding pines
a child has climbed
to pluck a young bird
from a nest made of light
and you call out to that child
Where is the house of my friend?

For those who always wanted to be perfect but were afraid to ask, Ron Padgett wrote the instructions, I added the pictures. Dan Hayon, 2017
... and so ends another perfect day by the Stygian shore ...

Thanks, Tom. Fortunately, I have always obeyed Ron's instructions.
ReplyDeleteThanks Terry. That's what the disheveled Irishmen lying by the side of the road all say.
ReplyDeleteI would be prone... or more optimistically upright, with a bit of help... to believe every last one of them.
(Believing and obeying, alas two different tricks, it is to be feared, said the disheveled Irishman.)
The coyote I saw chasing a big deer up the street in the choking smoke last night was, I guess, being perfect, in a hungry smoke-breathing coyote kind of way.
Everyone is supposed to be having a N-95 mask now, whatever that is.
Fairly certain neither predator nor prey, in said observed incident, was wearing an N-95 mask.
Radio says the last N-95 masks were sold out three days ago.
Something tells me there will be more N-95 masks manufactured soon.
Meanwhile there are those who are making do by wearing a bandanna over the face.
I see them out the window, down there in the street, milling about suspiciously, like a perfect stick-up gang.
(Also, as nobody else will say anything, let's not round out this generous discussion of the work before acknowledging Dan Hayon's perfect-genius contribution.)
(And furthermore, let's make sure not to escape back into silence by making even the slightest passing mention of those Iranian poets and artists also featured here, as they must be perfectly evil... I know this because Donnie, our absolutely perfect leader on the highway to perdition, has told me so.)
On the smoke thing, I go both ways, by the way (though nobody's asking), alternately choking and dizzy (can't breathe even indoors, smoke inveigles its way into everything, one poor dear dumb outdoor cat who shows up every hour or so for pit stop now reeks of smoke saturated fur), and impatient and furious with the entire human race, which continues to race up and down the freeway feeder in its carbon dissemination machines almost as though these were not the final days of animal habitation of planet Earth, and they were on a mission to accelerate the disaster.
ReplyDeleteThe Ron and Dan collaboration is wonderful. Page 15 has Polish which translates as "Good morning." The air seems clearer today - but as soon as I step outside I start coughing. Be well.
ReplyDeleteHilton, Yes, stept out in trepidation this eve only to find the wind has shifted and is now blowing the smoke from the fires out to sea. My mother's expression was "Thank God for small favors". Sometimes little things mean a lot.
ReplyDeleteAnother small favor, Trump hates Cali so much we can be fairly sure he won't show up to throw paper towels at us. Maybe he could stay home in the Casa Blanca and throw paper towels at straw Iranians.
Who ever thought we'd be down to pining for a Regime of the Generals. ABT, anybody but Trump.
Yes, Ron and Dan, a beautiful marriage. I don't know Dan, Ron I know. It would take a good person to write such a work. I don't think anybody could pull it off unless they were able to live up to it -- oh, say, maybe 78% of the time. But how would I know about goodness of person. Whatever it is, RP must have it. Thank God for etc.
