knots and kinks crop up in the slack parts of the system to block the flow
and loose points of tension
all over the world every doofus socially engineered instant, every heads up! moment
breaking into the sleep of reason
like an unleashed driverless tow-truck without a lease to go down this bad
bad stretch of road
parked halfass on the shoulder
over the scattered pinions and mauled body of the rainyday roadkill crow
and the radio sounds like an electrical storm all of a sudden out of El Cerrito
like an unleashed driverless tow-truck without a lease to go down this bad
bad stretch of road
parked halfass on the shoulder
over the scattered pinions and mauled body of the rainyday roadkill crow
and the radio sounds like an electrical storm all of a sudden out of El Cerrito
sparks snaps pops impedances
meanwhile more honkers and towtrucks beastlike in honking flashing swarms
move up the roaring Ave.
into the immediate past... then fade mercifully into the more distant past
that best of all pasts

and when we are gone from this environment of death, and these disturbances we have interjected,
our "works",
our "works",
will have continued to occur somewhere, suffering
outside our brains
and beyond our minds,
this is perhaps the one thing we will have been able to trust, in the night of the quiet bug
startled by the light of the generous man,
as the rain continues to fall over the milling victims in the trap...

Daniel Abdal-Hayy Moore: A Quiet Bug, from White Noise in This World Silver in the Next, Ecstatic Exchange, 2015
this post is dedicated to the lovely person and bright soul our friend and oaktown homeboy Daniel Abdal-Hayy Moore, in thanks for his discreet bug, among other discreet gifts o'er the years.
ReplyDeletewe first met Daniel 48 years ago next week, not far from where we now think of him, on this sopping night
Daniel was a sort of jongleur or minstrel denizen back in that day, with his own theatre company and floating locus magic orchestra, of curious instrumentation and substantial size, we visited him amongst his working orchestra once, in a big dark woody northside house, though I don't think he remembers.
All that was in a little noted nor recollected period before smartphones, when people found all sorts of interesting ways to spend their time. Daniel and his family circus were doing weird free theatre among the rock promontory parks of these hills, in those ancient days.
some home movies turned up lately...
... on the other hand, those ancient days are long gone, little mourned, and pretty much harmed nobody, so maybe we ought to just let 'em lie, there in the time machine...
ReplyDeleteNow is now, Daniel is Abdal-Hayy, oops! and the orchestra was Magic Lotus not Magic Locus (though maybe a bit of that, too) nor Magic Crocus etc, though why not, for all those possibilities...
and I love his quiet bug more with each passing minute, and wish him well from all of us here, on this sopping morn...
otherwise, sorry about the rumours of war seeping and weeping through the rain, the sky is crying...
but for that refugee performing his fastidious ablutions on the streets of Piraeus, the world narrows down...
the coastline is crumbling, the sky is falling...
