Later that night, drunk out of their minds, the two returned to Kurt's motel, and while Kurt was sleeping, Kathleen grabbed a Sharpie marker and wrote "Kurt Smells Like Teen Spirit" all over the wall. This was a reference to Tobi Vail (drummer of Bikini Kill) who Kurt dated and used to wear Teen Spirit deodorant.

It was pretty intense, you know?

Then Barbie grabbed the marker and threw it off the balcony of the condominium. It was intense.

Um, first you destroy the sentence, then you vacate the meanings of the words. You're just playing around and uh like repurposing some like uh old folk songs... I really hate old folk songs don't you? But when you deconstruct them and then reconstruct them into like spur of the moment gibberish it's really uh like intense and like relaxed at the same time, you know.

And really it was a supergreat and awesome honour actually, because like __ was there, and __ was like actually standing over in the corner and uh, what sentence?

Huh?

And so, like whoa, you know?

But Kathleen said no, Kurt just stunk like a fuckin polecat, worst personal hygiene ever, it was hard even to breathe in the same room, we used to pour rosewater all over him when he was faux-od'ing. It was pretty intense. You know?

So we got to talking some more.

Barbie was holding that Gertrude Stein smashed up and pulverized her clock and scattered its remnants all over the world like the limbs of Osiris, you know?

As we talked the ashes at the tips of our cigarettes pulsed orange in the crushing Ontario artistic night, and fell swirling into the parking lot.

She was doing this not out of naughtiness mind you. She wanted to emancipate lying from the tyranny of life by value only, that is all.

But as soon as lying is completely divorced from life, it can no longer express anything at all, like, I mean you know?

My heart went out to her. But not all the way, not completely.

It was then she began to abolish the couplings between sentences. And the stench in the room became unbearable.

It is much more important to play about like this than to rewrite the Waverly novels, she averred. Just don't talk to me aggressively, like a golfer, please.

If Trump was manageable at all, the White House would never have circulated this photo. Even if it's the most effective way to brief any President on the hurricane (which we doubt), you would think they'd be wary of any impression that this man is so challenged by complex information that he requires "the coloring book" version--that sense reinforced by the TA-like body language of the FEMA official. I see something entirely different. Not out his depth necessarily, but simply that a looming natural disaster fails to appeal to T's sense of self importance (not about me = uninteresting = not important).
