Lets be honest. #Deficit hawks like @BobCorker sold their souls to the devil. That’s what this captures as he departs the Capitol on the way to that @WhiteHouse #TaxBill celebration and #DearLeader love pageant. Nice work Tom. Have been a fan for years. Have one of your Black Sparrow selected poems, bio of Dorn (cherished) and Exile of Celine. I wrote an essay on Dorn's Recollections of Gran Apacheria for Malpais Review, headquartered in Albuquerque. Would like to get a copy to you. I'm on facebook.
thanks!
John Macker
Hi John, swell to hear from you, old time.
Two things to believe, I'm not on facebook, and I don't have an email address. (Ancient blind helpless cripple and crank? -- who, me?)
Weirder still, my partner's also not on fb, I use her email acct, address not to be issued on pain of death.
On tother hand it's a total kick to hear from somebody who cares about such thangs, I am moved, here in the chilly darkness before dawn, and will embark forthwith upon a hunt through the back alleys of the world wide web to see if I can't turn up your Gran Apacheria piece online somewhere.
BTW presuming you're somewhere in or near New Mexico we spent the final days of 1978 and earliest days of 1979 with the Dorns in your approx neck of the planet, plowing through big snowstorm on Raton Pass going south in mid o night w/ED & 2 of our kids in unheated no-chains rommel dune buggy, while women & other child took bus, to Santa Fe...
Tom:
great to hear from you. you can find the piece via Amazon: Malpais Review (Vol 5, No. 1 Summer 2014.)Or: Lummox Press, no. 6, 2017. Hope you find it. Yes! Before I moved down here (1994) I pulled a horse trailer with 2 ill-tempered Shetland ponies, Nov of 1979 to visit a friend in Las Vegas, NM over Raton Pass, ill-tempered blizzard, the pass closed after we started our white-knuckled ascension. I think it took 2 hours. I was just a white-knuckled kid. Most everyone should drive Raton Pass in winter when it's snowing as a rite of passage.
Dorn was/is a lifelong inspiration. Read with him in Denver back in '83 with Linda Hogan. He was, for me, one of the ultimo hombres. Gracious beyond the call of duty. All of you guys: berrigan, Notley, Creeley, (they used to have a rowdy "duende" reading series in Placitas, run by Larry Goodell, a friend.)
hope you have great new year.& thanks.
John
