Adiantum pedantum (Northern Maidenhair Fern): photo by Walter Siegmund, 15 May 2007

........Drugs made Pauline vague.

........She sat one day at the breakfast table

........Fingering in a baffled way

........The fronds of the maidenhair plant.

Was it the salt you were looking for dear?

Said Dulcie, exchanging a glance with the Brigadier.

........Chuff chuff Pauline what's the matter?

........Said the Brigadier to his wife

........Who did not even notice

........What a handsome couple they made.

Tom,
Although the expression of the couple showcased here are quite uncanny to pick up on, i love what the lady says...and as deliverance from the previous post..as we move on..

i stood between my lives..
lit a smoke with one
and put it out with the other,
We burn until we burn...

Though I enjoy Tom Raworth's collage, Stevie Smith's "fingering ... the maidenhair plant" trumps all.

Funny and cutting, indeed.

As we move on... fingering our maidenhair fronds, in the great darkness.

Er, of morning....
