Welcome to summer, California (like a dragon swallowing the sun)

.

San Francisco Bay as seen from The Lawrence Hall of Science: image via Bay Viewer @SFBayViewer, 1 July 2018

Particulate days
skies so lit
monsoon smoke
all the tunnels flooded
dragon swallowing the sun
searching for the joke
with an air line extending
through the bad
air and water
no filter fine enough
to capture it
while breathing
any more than
for the kids trapt
on the ledge
in the cave

Engineering (People Want To Look Good Always)

Facebook reveals it gave 61 companies access to widely blocked user data: Company tells Congress it provided Nike, Spotify, a dating app and other services with special rights to information: The Guardian, 2 July 2018 (excerpts)

Facebook gave 61 businesses including Nike, Spotify, UPS and dating app Hinge special rights to access user data after blocking such access more broadly.

In written responses to the US Congress on its operations, the social network revealed it granted numerous extensions to access a user’s public profile as well as some data from their friends.

*
In a separate disclosure, the social network also revealed it had granted special privileges to 52 other hardware and software firms to integrate “Facebook and Facebook features” into devices and services, which also involved access to some basic user data.

Apple, Amazon and the Chinese smartphone giant Huawei were among the companies on that list, which gave them permission to build versions of Facebook on their devices and products.

However, Facebook said the nature of that work limited the firms to building just Facebook-approved products, and the integrations had all been approved by its engineering teams – with 38 of the 52 having already been discontinued.

People are lazy and want to look good always so they want #Facebook edit their pics. Will consent be required before FB AI can retouch their image? Will we know it happened? Law enforcement mined FB photos before. Will photos be valid evidence in courts when AI can manipulate them?: image via Anonymous Worldwide @AnonsWorldwide, 30 June 2018

Facebook Enterprise Engineering Keep Them Secure 'n Smoov

We're a driving force behind Facebook’s “move fast” culture. We look at technology from a creative perspective and build enterprise engineering solutions that deliver seamless experiences for people using our products. And internally at Facebook, our team removes friction from employee’s [sic] lives and keep [sic] them secure, allowing them to focus on creating the biggest impact. And then we sever their air lines.

searching for the joke

This would be one of the pointless tasks we have been assigned.

I know the original's better and that but the Bellshill Boys have a nice line in harmony.

You've read my mind, now. The looking for the joke links and lineages are clear.

Bellshill Protestant Boys performing in New Stevenson Oranger, Sat 16th April 2011

Iggy Pop: Repo Man theme (1984)

Were either performance to be piped into a large monitor there on the subterranean cave ledge, and played continually, the question would be which musical offering would be more likely to prove effective sooner in driving the kids to actually attempt the desperate dirty dive and swim and slog through mud and shite that's now being proposed for them.

Thailand is mystery to me. "OK kids, let's go for a nice hike through a historically flooded unmapped labyrinthine cave complex 1 km beneath the surface of the Earth in monsoon season - for fun!"

Murica and its open fire pit festive ignitions likewise. Unintelligible.

Tomorrow is Authorized Explosions Day btw.

Proddy boys and their Culture relatively that much the more plausible I suppose, likewise iggy though in recent years it would have to be conceded that...

But let's go eat sushi and not pay!
