searching for Sugimoto. Hiroshi Sugimoto has a fantastic series of images featuring the interiors of American theatres. The series is borne from a simple idea: what would happen if a camera were brought into a movie theatre and the shutter kept open for the length of the film. The answer is equally simple but brilliant. After two hours of entertainment nothing remains -- nothing but the light. This is a huge pachinko LED sign. Pachinko is a Japanese gambling pastime. Yow, the fire and smoke, too close for comfort, step out the door and well... actually hurts to breathe.
Many tiny sharp nails in the lungs made up of everything that was living to the north of here, now burnt turned into tangible visible particulate matter, floating everywhere in the air.
Can't recall whether you'd hit town yet at the time the Mt St Helens debris plume settled over the front range and deposited a fine particulate coating over everything. Went to get out bike in early morning unaware of the eruption, discovered a great mystery spill of ash upon the mechanism.
This, a bit like that, plus heavy foglike enveloping clouds of perfume-y smoke.
North wind dropt and shifted round to east for one day, today, due to shift back round to north and gusty in the night and again ongoing, nervous time, ground covered with tinder dry treefall litter of ancient giant sequoia sempervirens, which has seen a lot, yet not quite seen it all... or so it seems, these last few spooky climate breakdown seasons.
(Must be surrealism!)
