We were once so close

to the wall socket electrical

     outlet, but when

I felt that thrilling tingle 
       race through my spine
like a straight shot 
             of hot lava
       back in the cabin
after a long day of ice fishing
        in Manitoba  

     how was I to know

as I stared at my phone

from a squatting position

     in a doorway

just down the block
         in Manchester

you were already married
to that rogue of a wall
     paper salesman
and not even in Canada

         and I was about to lose

  my head even though

we hadn't ever met?
