on the beach under the ground

many high waves strand
   kids
      in labyrinthine cave complex

on ledge named
   after breast of young woman
2 weeks coach feels bad kids flag

we understand
   clouds gather
      water rises

night falls
    migratory flocks escape
      the doomed island

I strolled through Elizabeth Gardens a day before this thing erupted. Strange to see somewhere so familiar on the computer screen. There's a wonderful river and footpath that gives you an entirely different perspective of the cathedral surrounded by trees and wheat - unchanged from Constable's time. Fine poem amongst the photos, Tom.

Thank you, Jonathan, and yes, what a lovely place and Oh my, what are we to do, or think?

I thought of Hardy bicycling to Southampton to see off Drummer Hodge, for some reason.
